COURSE OBJECTIVES
Course Title: International Extremist Groups
Target Audience: Active Police Officers and Community members
Length of Training: Eight Hours (8hrs.) Annual In-service Credit
Delivery Format: Interactive/Lecture
Course Purpose: To train police officers at an awareness level of current trends in international terrorism.
At the completion of this eight-hour block of instruction, the student should have an understanding of and be able to:
- Identify basic information about general terrorist operations and typical organizational structure.
- Identify common steps in a terrorist operation.
- Be aware of general ideology of Central and South American terrorist organizations.
- Be aware of general ideology of Asian Pacific terrorist organizations.
- Be aware of general ideology of European terrorist organizations.
- Be aware of general ideology of Middle Eastern terrorist organizations.
- Have a fundamental understanding of Islam and the role it plays in attacks by religious based terrorist organizations.
- Have a basic understanding of the need for officer safety skills as they relate to terrorism investigations.
- Be familiar with case studies of attacks and methods favored by various international terrorist organizations.
