LAW ENFORCEMENT RESPONSE TO TERRORISM AND OFFICER SAFETY
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Course Title: Law Enforcement Response to Terrorism and Officer Safety
Target Audience: Active Police Officers and Community members
Length of Training: Eight Hours (8hrs.) Annual In-service Credit
Delivery Format: Interactive/Lecture
Course Purpose: To train police officers at an awareness level of current trends relating to the response of terrorism events and Officer Safety Issues relating to the same.
At the completion of this eight-hour block of instruction, the student should have an understanding of and be able to:
- Identify basic information about general terrorist operations and typical organizational structure, both domestic and international.
- Identify common steps in a terrorist operation.
- Be aware of general warning signs relating to terrorist operations.
- Be aware of general ideology of Law Enforcement responses to terrorist attacks.
- Be aware of specific differences between common criminals and terrorists
- Be aware of specific law enforcement tactics used in the investigation and response to terrorism.
- Have a basic understanding of the need for officer safety skills as they relate to terrorism investigations.
- Be familiar with case studies of attacks and methods favored by various international and domestic terrorist organizations.
